Excavation of the southern tip

The excavation of the southern edge of the site will provide us some interesting facts as to the knowledge of the distribution of the rooms in the villa. Specifically, we continue with the delimitation of the room paved with mosaic located in the previous season, but not fully excavated. On the eastern edge, where there are the remains of the enclosure wall, we have been able to document the presence of large fragments of mural paintings, preserved among the debris level, as a product of the collapse of the structures. We also can see the closing edge of the tessellate tapestry and its junction with the enclosing wall.

Resumption of the excavation work

Once again, we start the archaeological excavations at the Roman villa of El Vergel, the company known as the FORAMEN remains a team that is advised by specialists in different fields of Archaeology (epigraphy, numismatics, ceramics, glass ...) and the invaluable help of Dr. D. Jose-Antonio Abásolo Alvarez, Professor of Archaeology at the University of Valladolid.

The campaign this year, corresponding with the 10th phase, is set around a new outdoor room area discovered last year. We intend to define the geometry of the archaeological site on its southern side.
