Presence of new living spaces at the southern end of the villa

The archaeological excavation continues advancing, confirming the presence of new living zones in the far south of the villa. At the moment we can’t establish definitive scheme yet, but we can discern the existence of at least three new rooms located in the west of the previous campaign, all of them with heating.

Locating a new room

The daily process of excavation has allowed us to locate a new room, located to the west of one room already found, in which it should have a heating system. On a hardened surface of lime and sand there are still preserved imprints of "suspensurae", brick pillars on which sat the floor of the room and through which warm air was able to circulate.

Excavation of the southern tip

The excavation of the southern edge of the site will provide us some interesting facts as to the knowledge of the distribution of the rooms in the villa. Specifically, we continue with the delimitation of the room paved with mosaic located in the previous season, but not fully excavated. On the eastern edge, where there are the remains of the enclosure wall, we have been able to document the presence of large fragments of mural paintings, preserved among the debris level, as a product of the collapse of the structures. We also can see the closing edge of the tessellate tapestry and its junction with the enclosing wall.
